After you download your emails in MS Outlook, you may get error message something like mentioned below:
“File path\outlook.pst could not be accessed. Data error. Cyclic redundancy check.”
This error message occurs when you try to access the recently downloaded emails. The emails don’t open up and throws this error message. Assuming that the emails might have been trashed, some of the users navigate to Deleted Items folder click on which throws another error which is mentioned below:
“Outlook Error 0x80040116”

The reason behind the occurrence of Outlook CRC (Cyclic Redundancy Check) Error is the damage of PST file. PST which is also known as Personal Folder File is the database of Outlook. All the emails, contacts, calendars, tasks, to do list, etc are stored in this particular file. When it gets damaged or say corrupted then the stored data becomes inaccessible. So in order to get back the access, one need to fix the damage. Sometimes problem in the certain sectors of hard disk also arises this error.
To Fix Outlook CRC error you need to fix the damage of Outlook Data File (.pst). But before going for repairing the file, you must check out the proper working of hard disk. Check your hard disk for any kind of error using Windows Disk Utility check.
Follow the steps mentioned below to check out the hard disk for bad sectors:
Open Start menu.
Type cmd in search box. In the list shown, right click on cmd and select Run as Administrator. Click Yes on the next dialog box.
Type chkdsk /f in command prompt and press Enter.
Disk checking should initiate if not then it will ask for Y/N. Type Y and press Enter.
Restart the PC, after booting repairing of disk will begin.
Once you are done with it then check Outlook for the correct functioning of email client. If problem still occurs then use ScanPST.exe tool to fix the damage of PST file. It is the inbuilt tool of MS Outlook and can be found in the Office folder under Program Files. Locate it and use it to fix the damage of PST file. Follow the steps after launching Inbox Repair Tool:
Browse the damaged PST file.
Click on Start button.
After process finishes then check on backup option.
Browse the location for backup file.
Click on Repair button.
After the process finishes then a message will appear. Click on OK and use the file.
